Hi everyone
I'm due to start Enbrel in the 14th.
It can't come quick enough to be honest, I just am a little worried about the side effects (I'm getting married on march 24th and want to feel as well as possible!!!)
I'm curious about others experience of this drug & how many have experienced the side effects.

Thanks

Hi Claire

Congratulations on your forthcoming wedding, hope you have a great day.

I have been on Enbrel for the past year along with Methotrexate and I fully understand your concerns. I considered not using it having read of the side effects but then like you realise that the alternatives are not great.
However it has worked brilliantly for me and the only side effects I have had are feeling a little spaced out for the first couple of weeks. The actual injection is with an epi pen and is easy to use and the nurse is great at showing you how to do it.

Wishing you all the best with it, I can honestly say it has been the best thing I have done as it has given me my life back.

Best Wishes

Sue

Good luck firstly on your inpending Wedding. I bet right now your mind is full of 'wedding bells'.

I have had no dealings with Enbrel but I do hope things go well for you and give you relief. I am sure
there will be lots of other people come on here and help you with advice.

Hi and congratulations on your wedding.....

I have been on Enbrel and this is my 3rd week. I can definitley see the difference with regards to the pain, I am taking this with
Methotrexte, Folic acid, Steroids and Co codomal.

I have felt a little dozy but apart from that not really much else.

Good luck hope it helps you too.

Hi

Congratulations on your wedding, I hope the sun shines for you.

I have been on Enbrel for 9 years, I was part of the trials before it was licensed. I can honesty say it gave me my life back. Went from pain and stiffness from head to toe, to only flare ups some of the time. The only side effects I have ever had is redness around around the injection area when I used a needle, now use a pen.

I sincerely hope that it works as well for you.

Best wishes
Lisa

Claire

Firstly congratulations on your wedding on 24th March. I hope you have a brilliant day.

I tried Enbrel but unfortunately had to stop as I had very bad skin reactions to it. The more I injected the worse I got. Just keep an eye on what is happening with your body and speak to your Rheumy Dept as soon as possible if you are unsure if something is not right.

As many have said on here they have been successful and found great relief so let's hope you are in this category. I am great believer in just getting on and trying things. Everyone reacts differently and this may be the drug for you.

Take care

Jackie

Hi Claire,

Hoping that all is going well with your Enbrel (and wedding preparations of course!). I started on Enbrel in September last year, having had a bit of a relapse when just taking methotrexate. I have had some injection site reactions (itching and redness like big gnat bites) which didn't start until approx the 5th injection and I experienced these for a couple of months. I did take anti-histamine tablets before injecting and these seemed to help a bit, but thankfully now my body seems to have got used to the injections and I no longer get much of a reaction at all. I find injecting into the lower part of my stomach much better than my thigh.

The positives have been great, and from having been incredibly stiff again with quite a lot of joint deterioration, I now feel pretty much back to normal, and my blood tests are apparently good too.

I hope all goes well for you - in all respects. I decided not to worry too much about the side effects, as compared with the prospect of being very stiff with my joints deteriorating I didn't think there was much choice!

Good luck!

Hi Claire

Congratulations on your forthcoming wedding, you must be very excited with only a few weeks to go!

I was on Enbrel for 8 or 9 years before it lost its efficacy. I had an excellent response and was able to do many of the things that I thought I may never do again. I hope it works well for you and you benefit from a fast response. Keep us posted Smile

Thanks ladies
I did 3 injections and was covered in a rash, I missed an injection and then tried again this week so far so good. Myself and the rheumatology nurse think I have an allergy to something else, not etanercept!

I've felt so much better on this drug, stiffness has much reduced and I feel, dare I say, well!!
